Tesla launches Full Self-Driving gifting program

Tesla has introduced a new program allowing owners to gift one month of Full Self-Driving software to other Tesla owners. The initiative, priced at $112, aims to let recipients experience the semi-autonomous features firsthand. This launch follows a suggestion made to the company last month.

Tesla officially rolled out its Full Self-Driving (FSD) gifting program on December 8, 2025, just weeks after it was first suggested via social media. The program enables existing Tesla owners to purchase and send a one-month subscription of FSD (Supervised) to friends or family who own compatible vehicles. This move is designed to broaden access to the software, potentially converting trial users into long-term subscribers or outright buyers.

The gift option is available through Tesla's online Shop and is limited to the U.S. market. It costs $112, which covers the monthly fee plus up to 13% sales tax. According to the product description:

Gift one month of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), which allows the vehicle to drive itself almost anywhere with minimal intervention. All sales are final. Can only be purchased and redeemed in the U.S. This gift card is valued at $112.00 and is intended to cover the price of one month of FSD (Supervised), including up to 13% sales tax. It is not guaranteed to cover the full monthly price if pricing or tax rates change. This gift card can be stored in Tesla Wallet and redeemed toward FSD (Supervised) or any other Tesla product or service that accepts gift card payments.

This initiative builds on Tesla's efforts to expand FSD adoption, including subscription models and referral-based free trials. It aligns with the company's "butts in seats" strategy, which emphasizes hands-on experiences to encourage uptake of its vehicles and features. Additionally, the push for more FSD users ties into CEO Elon Musk's compensation structure, where one performance tranche depends on achieving a specific number of active paid FSD subscriptions.

By offering gifting, Tesla hopes to increase trial exposure, as more users who experience the suite are likely to commit long-term. The program was first highlighted in a tweet on November 3, 2025, from TESLARATI, announcing that owners could soon purchase FSD subscriptions for others.
