Tesla tops American-Made Index for sixth consecutive year

Tesla secured the top two positions in the American-Made Index from Cars.com for the sixth straight year. The Model 3 ranked first and the Model Y ranked second among nearly 400 vehicles from the 2026 model year.

The rankings are based on five categories including the location of final assembly, the percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts, countries of origin for engines and transmissions, and the size of the U.S. manufacturing workforce. Tesla earned the highest scores on a 100-point scale.

Last year the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X occupied the top four spots. Tesla discontinued the Model S and Model X earlier this year, removing them from consideration. The Cybertruck was also excluded because its curb weight exceeds the 8,500-pound threshold.

Tesla was the only manufacturer with an electric vehicle in the top 10. The next closest electric vehicle was the Kia EV9 in 17th place, followed by the Hyundai IONIQ 5 in 21st and the Cadillac LYRIQ in 77th.

Tesla relies on vertical integration and domestic production to keep more value and jobs in the United States. This approach has also helped the company limit exposure to tariffs and supply chain issues.
