thousands of bekasi regency residents affected by kali cikarang flood

The Bekasi Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) records 3,548 residents affected by flooding in seven sub-districts since Friday night due to heavy rainfall and Kali Cikarang overflow. The flood submerges 1,304 houses from 1,377 households, with Sukatani Sub-district the most severely impacted. Officials have set up evacuation tents and distributed logistics aid.

Flooding in Bekasi Regency, West Java, began on Friday night (31/10/2025) due to heavy rain and upstream water inflow, causing Kali Cikarang to overflow. As of Saturday evening (1/11/2025), water still inundates areas with heights of 30-80 centimeters in most spots, though two sub-districts—Serang Baru and Cikarang Selatan—have receded except for puddles.

BPBD Bekasi Regency Acting Head Muchlis stated Sukatani Sub-district is worst hit with 140-centimeter water levels, flooding 140 houses and affecting 815 people from 210 households. Other areas like Cikarang Barat reached one meter initially, now down to 5-10 centimeters. The seven affected sub-districts include Serang Baru, Cikarang Selatan, Cikarang Barat, Cikarang Utara, Sukatani, Karangbahagia, and Cibitung.

BPBD has sent water pumps to Arthera Hill Housing in Serang Baru, set up refugee tents in Cikarang Barat and Utara, and conducted evacuations and aid distribution. "Our team is still in the field monitoring and assisting residents," said Emergency Section Head Dodi Supriadi.

Resident Nana (26) from Kampung Keramat, Cikarang Utara, called it the third flood this year, with water rising quickly from Kali Cikarang overflow. "Flood from other areas. Kali Cikarang water rises gradually until it overflows into settlements, but this time the process was very fast," she said. She recalled the March flood that damaged items due to lack of preparation. Odah (43) from Kampung Jarakosta, Cikarang Barat, added the flood stems from Katulampa overflow in Bogor, slow to recede for days.

Muchlis confirmed no fatalities and urged vigilance as heavy rain may continue. "Alhamdulillah no casualties but we along with volunteers and residents are still on alert tonight to minimize impacts," he said.
