Tiger Woods provided a puzzling response about his return to competitive golf during a TGL match broadcast on Sunday night. The 15-time major winner, recovering from back surgery, suggested he is ready for a member-guest event but is absent from this year's Seminole Pro-Member. Speculation points to the Masters as his likely first start of 2026.
Tiger Woods has been sidelined from the PGA Tour in 2026 following his seventh back surgery in October 2025. He skipped the recent Cognizant Classic and has not competed professionally this year. On Sunday night, Woods attended his Jupiter Links team's TGL match against Boston Common Golf Club but did not participate. The team fell short, losing 7-6 and sitting fifth out of six in the standings, at risk of missing the playoffs again.
During an ESPN interview at the event, Woods was asked about his proximity to returning to competitive golf. He replied with a smile: “Playing a Member-Guest, I’m good to go.” The comment appears to reference the Seminole Pro-Member tournament, scheduled for Monday, an exclusive event Woods often attends. However, he is not listed in this year's field, indicating he may not yet be fully prepared.
Woods' recovery has progressed gradually. In late January during another TGL match, he shared: “I’m moving up to short irons, so that’s about it... I’m progressing, which is nice. I’m getting there and getting stronger. It’s just one of those things where it just takes so much time for the bone to heal and the bone to set.” Two weeks prior, at the Genesis Invitational he hosts, Woods added: “It’s just one of those things where each and every day, I keep trying, I keep progressing... trying to get it at a level at which I can play at the highest level again.”
The 2026 Masters, beginning April 9, emerges as the probable site for Woods' comeback. As a five-time champion, he holds a lifetime invitation and has previously returned from injuries there. This would mark his first professional start since the 2024 Open Championship. Rumors suggest he might consider the PGA Tour Champions, where he is now eligible at age 50 and could use a cart; upcoming events include the Cologuard Classic (March 20-22) and Hoag Classic (March 27-29).
