In Dunedin, manager John Schneider announced Thursday that Trey Yesavage, the breakout star of 2025 who pitched in Game 7 of the World Series, will begin the 2026 season on the injured list. Yesavage is dealing with a right shoulder impingement that he reported to camp, which led to a slow build-up this spring. He has not yet pitched in Grapefruit League games and last threw 35 pitches over two innings in a Minor League game on Monday. His next scheduled outing is March 25, and he is continuing his ramp-up program as he feels better now. Schneider noted optimism about the recovery, stating, “It’s something that he reported to camp with and it obviously led to his slow build-up, as well. Right now, he’s feeling good and he’s in a better place now to continue to ramp up.” The Blue Jays had planned caution with Yesavage after his increased workload last year, starting in Single-A Dunedin. Schneider added, “A lot of guys deal with this. When he reported this, we slow-played it a little bit and I think it will just come back naturally.” This injury adds to challenges in Toronto's rotation, already missing Shane Bieber, who is ramping up from forearm fatigue, and José Berríos, with a stress fracture in his right elbow. Eric Lauer is now likely to join Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, Max Scherzer, and Cody Ponce in the rotation. Schneider described Yesavage as handling the situation professionally, despite disappointment.
