TYC Narcea workers camp in Oviedo against impending ERE

The workforce from the Vega de Rengos mine has set up tents in Paseo de los Álamos to demand resumption of activity before June 30.

Workers from TYC Narcea have maintained a camp in Oviedo for several days to highlight their situation. They demand that the administration speed up processing of the exploitation project sent in April 2025.

The ERE will take effect on June 30, affecting 56 employees while 12 remain in maintenance tasks. Activity halted after the November 21, 2025 accident in which Óscar Díaz Rodríguez and Anilson Soares de Brito died.

Spokesperson Carlos Menéndez has stated that the Instituto de Transición Justa will decide by the end of September on possible aid repayments. He estimates resumption cannot occur before January or February 2027.

Mayors from the southwestern region and the Asociación de Comarcas Mineras have backed the protest and called for administrative agility from President Adrián Barbón.
