President Donald Trump marked his 80th birthday Sunday with a UFC mixed martial arts event on the White House South Lawn and an announcement of an initial agreement to end the war in Iran.
The UFC Freedom 250 event featured seven fights, all ending in knockouts or technical knockouts. In the main event, American Justin Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria by TKO in the fourth round to win the undisputed lightweight title.
Gaethje entered the fight as a 6-1 underdog. He said after the bout, “I’m from America, 250 years ago we were way bigger than 6-1 dogs, and look at us thriving now.”
The card included fights by Sean O’Malley and Alex Pereira. A flyover by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and U.S. Navy Blue Angels took place during the national anthem. UFC President Dana White said the event was one of a kind that will never happen again.
White estimated nearly 200,000 people attended related festivities over two days at the Ellipse. Trump also announced that an agreement had been reached to end hostilities with Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
