Verstappen dismisses F1 title challenge talk after Austrian GP

Max Verstappen finished second at the Austrian Grand Prix but said his Red Bull team still has too many issues to mount a title challenge.

Four-time world champion Max Verstappen placed second behind George Russell of Mercedes in the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday. The result marked his best finish of the 2026 season following upgrades to the RB22 car, including a new floor introduced at the event.

Verstappen trails championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 98 points. He acknowledged recent progress since the Miami Grand Prix but stressed the need for broader improvements.

"We had very good pace, but I think to fight for a title we need to be more all-around," Verstappen said. He also noted recurring issues with starts and other procedural matters.

"We still have too many issues," he added. "We just need to focus on all of those things."
