Wisconsin woman charged in hit-and-run pedestrian crash

An 81-year-old woman in Waukesha, Wisconsin, faces charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian with her car and driving away. The incident occurred on February 8 at an intersection, sending the man flying over her vehicle's hood. Police arrested her shortly after at a nearby store.

On February 8, Janet Wolfgram, 81, was driving a red Chevrolet Cruze in Waukesha, Wisconsin, when she turned left at an intersection and struck an unnamed pedestrian who had the walk sign. According to the criminal complaint, the impact launched the man 15 to 20 feet through the air over the hood of her car. He survived the crash but sustained injuries, including to his leg, and was later seen walking with assistance, a gas station attendant told police.

The pedestrian lay in the street clutching his leg after the collision. One witness called authorities immediately, while another followed Wolfgram's vehicle to a nearby Pick 'N Save store. Officers arrived at the parking lot as Wolfgram exited her car. When asked if she knew about the accident, she reportedly said she "thought she hit something but wasn't sure what." Upon learning she had struck a person, she became "quite distraught."

Surveillance footage from the intersection captured the red Cruze driving through and hitting the man, who flew over the hood as the vehicle continued. Wolfgram was arrested by Waukesha Police Department officers and taken to a substation. She was booked into jail and released with tickets. A charge of hit-and-run involving injury was filed on Wednesday, with her next court appearance set for March 31.
