Wyoming parents face murder charges in infant's shaken baby death

A mother and father in Cheyenne, Wyoming, have been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of their 4-month-old son. Authorities say the boy suffered life-threatening brain trauma from physical abuse last year. The parents were arrested on April 8 after an autopsy confirmed homicide.

Juliette Martinez, 23, and Joseph Hanson, 24, brought their son, identified as TH, to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center on August 8, 2025, around 5:45 p.m., after noticing he was shaking and his breathing was off. Hospital staff airlifted the infant to Denver Children's Hospital, where tests revealed fractures and severe brain injuries consistent with physical abuse. The boy was placed on life support and pronounced dead on September 8, 2025, after it was removed. Cheyenne police investigated the case, searching the parents' cellphones. Martinez's phone showed activity on Snapchat and TikTok between 8:03 a.m. and 9:29 a.m. that day, despite her claim of sleeping until 11:20 a.m. It also had 58 missing text messages from 6:42 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and searches including 'Shaken baby syndrome symptoms go away' and 'Signs father gave baby shaken baby syndrome' around the time they noticed the shaking. An autopsy completed on March 20 determined the cause of death as homicide, leading to the parents' arrests on April 8. Both appeared in court on Thursday and are scheduled to return on April 17. They are held in Laramie County Detention Center.
