Presidential hopeful Romeu Zema said on Saturday that Michelle Bolsonaro is among his options for running mate. Hours later, the former first lady ruled out any chance of the ticket materializing.

Zema made the statement during the 10th National Meeting of the Novo party, held in São Paulo. Asked about the possibility after Michelle liked some of his social media posts, the former Minas Gerais governor said she was among the alternatives under consideration.

“It is a possibility, yes, as others are too. A clean-record name is always a very good name,” Zema declared. He added that Novo plans to choose the running mate by August 5, the deadline for party conventions.

Michelle responded on Instagram. “First, I have not even decided if I will run for the Senate. Therefore, this proposal cannot even be considered,” she wrote. She stressed that she remains affiliated with the PL, the party that already has Senator Flávio Bolsonaro as its presidential hopeful, and concluded: “Therefore, there is no possibility of this happening.”

Initial reactions on X show skepticism about Zema's proposal, noting Michelle's PL affiliation and Flavio's candidacy; users call it political maneuvering or molecagem, while some discuss possible alliances and ask for opinions on the ticket.
