PT PLN (Persero) completed restoration of the electricity system across Sumatra following a widespread outage on Friday, May 22, 2026.

PT PLN recorded a peak electricity load of 44.5 gigawatts (GW) on Christmas Eve, with a capacity of 70.8 GW, ensuring a safe supply with sufficient reserves. PLN CEO Darmawan Prasodjo stated that this reflects the reliability of the national power system. Thousands of personnel and support equipment were deployed to secure supply through the end of the Christmas and New Year period.
