18-year-old talent sinks Italy with two goals

Sweden defeated Italy 3–0 in the ice hockey World Championship. 18-year-old Ivar Stenberg scored two of the goals.

Sweden secured an expected victory over Italy on Friday evening in Fribourg. Carl Grundström scored 1–0 early in the first period. Ivar Stenberg made it 2–0 just before the break on a power play.

Stenberg also scored to make it 3–0 in the second period. Both of his goals were assisted by teammate Viggo Björck, also 18 years old. Goalkeeper Damian Clara saved 31 of 34 shots for Italy.

– It felt good. I have had a few chances earlier so it was about time, Stenberg told Viaplay.

Tre Kronor face Norway already on Saturday in their next group stage match. Sweden has nine points after five games and sits fourth in the group.
