Abascal warns PP he will break regional governments if pacts not followed

Vox leader Santiago Abascal warned the Popular Party on Saturday that his party will break coalition governments in Extremadura, Aragón and Castilla y León if signed agreements are not honored.

Abascal made these remarks during the closing of Vox’s Ordinary General Assembly at the Mutua Madrileña Auditorium in Madrid. He asked his regional vice presidents to leave the executives if they detect tricks or delays in implementing the pacts, as happened in July 2024.

The Vox president also presented a deregulation program inspired by Argentine President Javier Milei. The proposal includes eliminating three rules for every new one approved and using a scalpel instead of a chainsaw from the regional vice presidencies.

At the event, Abascal described Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez as unbalanced, psychopathic and ill-born, and stated that Spain today has a dangerous madman at the wheel. Secretary General Ignacio Garriga defended national priority as social justice.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has pledged to deploy the full force of the state against any Extremadura regional laws enacting the PP-Vox pact's 'national priority' clause, which prioritizes Spaniards for social aids over irregular immigrants. The threat follows criticism from Madrid's Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who called the measure illegal.

PP and Vox announced a coalition government agreement in Extremadura on Thursday, ending four months of deadlock after the December 21 elections. María Guardiola will be invested as president with Vox support, which gains a vicepresidency and two ministries. The pact includes 74 measures, emphasizing immigration restrictions.
