PDP governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu has alleged that all Nigerian governors divert local government funds and pledged full council autonomy if elected in 2027. The Alake of Egbaland endorsed his ambition during a meeting at Ake Palace in Abeokuta on July 19, 2026.
Adebutu addressed the Egba Traditional Council alongside his running mate Dr. Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo and other PDP leaders. He stated that local governments must receive their statutory allocations directly and claimed all governors regardless of party are involved in diversion of funds. He also promised alternative financing for infrastructure and public-private partnerships for electricity supply.
Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo publicly endorsed Adebutu citing the philanthropic legacy of his father Sir Kensington Adebutu. The monarch recalled how the elder Adebutu funded a building for an Egba association in Lagos and described the candidate as trustworthy and reliable.
The Ogun State PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella and other party figures highlighted the need for local government independence to drive grassroots development. Adebutu said he had personally distributed over 600 electricity transformers to communities across the state.
