One week after teaming with his brother Matt to win the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, Alex Fitzpatrick made a strong impression in his PGA Tour membership debut. The younger Fitzpatrick, who entered the week ranked 141st, competed in the Signature Event alongside top players like Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa. He posted rounds of 72-66-74-67 on the Blue Monster course, finishing nine under par—four shots behind solo second-place Scheffler and 10 back of winner Cameron Young. Fitzpatrick topped the field in strokes gained off the tee at +4.15 and driving accuracy, placing 63rd in putting, and took home $500,000 for his tie for ninth. His Zurich victory earned both brothers two-year PGA Tour memberships and spots in Signature Events—a minor boost for world No. 4 Matt, but a breakthrough for Alex, who skipped a planned DP World Tour event in Turkey to stay stateside. “There’s still loads of expectations that I put on myself,” Fitzpatrick said Friday. “Everything’s a bonus at this stage, which does help, but I’m still a golfer at the end of the day.” He added that his game feels in control after recent improvements. The whirlwind continues for Fitzpatrick, who is still fielding congratulations from his Zurich win. “The overwhelming feeling of joy and happiness is yet to go away,” he said. “No matter what happens it will be a success.”
