Anc Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has conceded that the party's financial stability remains a major hurdle for its renewal. He highlighted this issue following the National General Council in Johannesburg this week, stressing the need for substantial resources to sustain operations.
Fikile Mbalula, Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC), has identified the stability of the party's finances as a pressing challenge in its efforts to renew itself. This concern arises after the National General Council (NGC) held in Johannesburg this week, where the ANC is focusing on organizational priorities.
Mbalula pointed out the immense scale of the ANC's operations, which require significant funding. He stated, "The ANC is massive. Our bill of salaries only, without added other ingredients, is R20-million per month. And then you must look at Luthuli House and look at other parties. So, to sustain the ANC, it needs a lot of resources. And this is what we need to address as an organisation. We are the only political party in this country that exists in every ward in South Africa. We may not have branches, but we do have interim structures everywhere."
The party's widespread presence across South Africa, even through interim structures in areas without formal branches, underscores the resource demands. Addressing these financial issues will be crucial for the ANC's post-NGC agenda.
