Ânima Educação reaches deal to repurchase FMU for R$ 410 million

Ânima Educação announced on Tuesday an agreement to repurchase FMU for R$ 410 million. The transaction requires CADE approval and involves payment in two installments. FMU has been under Farallon fund control since 2020.

Ânima Educação informed the market of the agreement to reacquire FMU. The São Paulo university had been sold in 2020 for R$ 500 million during the Laureate purchase deal.

Payment will occur in two stages. The first installment of R$ 240 million will be paid in cash or adjusted by CDI if closing happens in 2027. The second will be settled in 2029 or three years after final CADE approval.

FMU has faced financial difficulties since the pandemic and entered judicial recovery in March 2025. It currently has 51,000 students across six campuses in São Paulo and more than 200 distance learning units.
