ArcBest has bought two Tesla Semi trucks following a successful pilot program last year. The company shared details of the acquisition in an announcement made on June 11.
The vehicles will be used mainly for linehaul operations in California. Plans call for later expansion to Reno, Nevada, and possibly additional sites.
During the 2025 pilot, the Tesla Semis recorded an average energy efficiency of about 1.55 kWh per mile. Drivers reported strong visibility, comfort, and reliable performance on routes that include the 7,200-foot climb over Donner Pass.
Feedback on the newly purchased units has also been positive. Operators noted the trucks' ease of use along with the power expected from a Class 8 tractor in less-than-truckload service.
