Brigitte Macron, wife of Emmanuel Macron, stated in an interview with La Tribune that she feels «sometimes sadder than ever» after nine years at the Élysée. She cites the darkness of the world, stupidity, and meanness she has encountered. The former French teacher says writing down her thoughts helps her greatly.
Brigitte Macron opened up to La Tribune on Sunday about her personal assessment after nearly a decade at the Élysée Palace. «Before, I had a normal life, children, a job, ups and downs like everyone else. Here, these ten years have passed so quickly... They were so intense. I saw the darkness of the world, stupidity, meanness. I am sometimes sadder than I had ever been», she said.
She added: «It is sometimes hard for me to see the blue sky... I have moments of pessimism that I didn’t have before». The interview took place at the Élysée, where the couple will leave office in 2027 after two presidential terms.
This comes after years of online harassment. Brigitte Macron, 73, and her 48-year-old husband, whom she met in high school where she taught theater, have faced massive spread of false information, including a rumor portraying her as transgender. She filed a complaint in late August 2024, noting its strong impact on her circle.
In January, several cyberharassers were sentenced to penalties up to six months in prison, most suspended, for insults and rumors related to her gender and age gap with the president.
