Brynäs defenseman Axel Andersson downplays NHL rumors

Axel Andersson of Brynäs has dismissed speculation about NHL interest, emphasizing his commitment to the Swedish club. The defenseman recently signed a two-year contract extension after Brynäs exited the SM playoffs. Andersson told Gefle Dagblad he has heard nothing concrete amid the rumors.

Axel Andersson acknowledged seeing reports of possible NHL interest but stressed there is nothing concrete to address at present. “I saw that, but right now I have no other thoughts than to continue playing with Brynäs,” he told Gefle Dagblad. Following Brynäs's elimination from the SM playoffs, Andersson has been spending time with family while the team holds end-of-season meetings and enters a break. This season did not match last year's SM final appearance, though Andersson had a strong year capped by a Tre Kronor debut and his new contract. Drafted by Boston, Andersson has prior North American experience from junior hockey and the AHL, fueling spring rumors. “I've read the same as everyone else, but I haven't heard anything myself and have just signed a two-year contract, so right now there's nothing else to take a position on,” he said. Andersson leaves the door open for future changes, particularly with national team commitments like the Beijer Hockey Games and an upcoming world championship. “I'm trying to stay in shape and am ready if the chance comes up, for it would of course be very fun to be part of it,” he added.
