Carlos Slim announces 5 billion dollar investment in Mexico

Businessman Carlos Slim Helú announced that he will invest around 5 billion dollars in Mexico during 2026 through his companies in sectors such as infrastructure, oil and telecommunications.

Slim made the announcement during his annual conference at the headquarters of Grupo Financiero Inbursa. He said one of the main bets is the energy sector, where his companies maintain 32 active wells in Campo Ixachi that produce nearly 2 thousand barrels of crude oil per day.

The tycoon ruled out participating in fracking projects. He noted that Mexico needs urgent investments in transportation, electricity generation and water systems. He highlighted coordination with President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government through the National Investment Council to simplify procedures.

Slim called Moody’s downgrade of Mexico’s credit rating “irrational.” He argued that debt at 60 percent of GDP for 2026 does not represent an alarming level. He also complained that Telmex still lacks authorization to offer pay television after 25 years.
