Christelle Petex resigns from her political mandates in Haute-Savoie

Christelle Petex, a Republicans deputy from Haute-Savoie, has announced her resignation from her two electoral mandates, citing an excess of criticisms, attacks, and threats. Elected to the department council since 2015 and to the National Assembly since 2021, she expresses her disgust with partisan politics. Partial elections are scheduled within three months.

Christelle Petex, 45 years old, published a statement on her Facebook account on Thursday, November 6, announcing her resignation from the mandates of departmental councilor and deputy of the 3rd constituency of Haute-Savoie. In an open letter sent to the press, she states: « Wishing above all to keep my values, I inform you of my resignation from the mandates of departmental councilor and [of] deputy ».

The elected official explains she has been on sick leave for several months due to « too much of everything », including « too many criticisms, attacks, attempts at dissuasion, threats ». Her entourage declined to comment on the nature of these threats to Agence France-Presse (AFP). She adds: « Perhaps it could be summarized by saying too much partisan politics surrounding me, which disgusts me, exhausts me. Where is the human, the citizen in all this? ».

Ms. Petex, a member of the sustainable development and territorial planning commission at the National Assembly, was elected departmental councilor in 2015 and deputy in 2021. In the early legislative elections of July 2024, she won 56.19% of the votes under the miscellaneous right label, defeating Antoine Valentin, a Ciotti-backed candidate supported by Reconquête! and the National Rally.

Initially convinced that « politics could be just, effective, evolving », she concludes it is not and prefers to end her commitment to preserve her values. According to her entourage, partial elections to replace her in both assemblies will take place within three months.
