The Cleveland Monsters will host the 2027 American Hockey League All-Star Classic, as approved unanimously by the AHL Board of Governors. The event features skills competitions and challenges at Rocket Arena in downtown Cleveland. This marks a return to the city with a rich hockey history.
The American Hockey League announced that the Cleveland Monsters have been selected to host the 2027 AHL All-Star Classic. The festivities include the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on the evening of Sunday, February 7, 2027, followed by the AHL All-Star Challenge on Monday, February 8, 2027. The AHL Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony will occur Monday morning, with additional events to be revealed later.
Both main events will take place at Rocket Arena, a venue that has hosted significant national gatherings like the 2022 NBA All-Star Game and the 2024 NCAA Women’s Final Four. Cleveland's hockey legacy dates back to the inaugural AHL All-Star event on February 3, 1942, with further hosting in 1954 and 1957 when the Cleveland Barons opposed AHL All-Stars.
AHL President and CEO Scott Howson praised the choice: “Cleveland stands as a pillar among historic American Hockey League cities, and the Monsters organization is one of our most successful franchises today. We are excited to be bringing our showcase event to Rocket Arena and the city of Cleveland in 2027.”
Cleveland Monsters President Mike Ostrowski highlighted the timing: “Cleveland has a proud and storied hockey tradition and it’s fitting that in the midst of our 20th season we celebrate the return of the AHL All-Star Classic to our city in 2027.” He credited fans for leading league attendance over the past three years.
Mayor Justin Bibb welcomed the event: “The City of Cleveland is proud to welcome the 2027 American Hockey League All-Star Classic. Hosting premier sporting events shows the world that Cleveland can deliver unforgettable experiences and is a city where sports, culture, and community come together.”
The Historic Hotel Cleveland will serve as the official hotel, connected to the arena via an indoor walkway. Fans can purchase the All-Star Pack for $49 now, securing tickets to both events and an exclusive hat. Membership in the Monsters Hockey Club also guarantees seats for the 2026-27 season.
The AHL, operational since 1936, develops talent for the NHL, with nearly 90 percent of current NHL players as graduates.
