Commodore cuts retro phone price by $100 ahead of preorders

Commodore has lowered the starting price of its Callback 8020 flip phone by $100. The change applies to most models and comes just days before preorders open.

The BASIC Beige, ProtoPET White, SX Silver, and Starlight Edition versions will now begin at $399 instead of $500. The Founders Edition model remains priced at $640.

Preorders for the privacy-focused device are scheduled to start on June 30. In exchange for the lower cost, baseline units will ship without Hi-Def IEM earphones and will include a secondhand memory chip, though both options can be added as upgrades.

The company said the adjustment follows strong global interest in the product. Officials noted that customers had requested a more accessible price point, and the firm worked with partners over the past week to achieve the reduction while preserving core features.
