Focus Features and Working Title have announced a September 2026 theatrical release for their adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility,' starring Daisy Edgar-Jones. The film will hit U.S. theaters on September 11, 2026, followed by a September 25 debut in the United Kingdom. This revival features a cast including Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, and George MacKay.
Release Details
The upcoming 'Sense and Sensibility' remake, a Working Title production, is scheduled for a wide release in cinemas as awards season begins. Directed or adapted in a revival by George Oakley with a script by Diana Reid, the film adapts Jane Austen's classic story of love and family in Georgian-era England. It follows the Dashwood sisters—portrayed by Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor and Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne—as they navigate suitors and societal expectations after their father's death leaves them in reduced circumstances.
Cast and Production
Joining Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles are Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw. Producers include Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title, India Flint from November Pictures, and Jo Wallett from Kiddo Films. Focus Features holds global rights, with United Pictures International handling international distribution.
This marks another Austen project for Working Title and Focus Features, following their 2005 'Pride & Prejudice' (four Oscar nominations) and 2020 'Emma.' The 1995 'Sense and Sensibility,' directed by Ang Lee with Emma Thompson's Oscar-winning screenplay and stars Thompson and Kate Winslet, earned seven Oscar nods and grossed over $134 million worldwide.
The announcement positions the film for potential awards contention, aligning with Focus Features' fall slate including 'Hamnet' and 'Song Sung Blue.'
