Several new actors have been announced for Sam Mendes' four-part Beatles film series, including David Morrissey as Paul McCartney's father and Leanne Best as John Lennon's aunt Mimi. The project, titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, features each film from the perspective of one band member and holds the first full music rights to the Beatles' discography. All films are slated for release on April 7, 2028.
Casting Announcements
The latest additions to the cast include David Morrissey, known for The Walking Dead, portraying Jim McCartney, Paul McCartney's father. Leanne Best, niece of original Beatles drummer Pete Best and recognized from Line Of Duty, will play Aunt Mimi, who raised John Lennon. Bobby Schofield from The Covenant is set as road manager and schoolfriend Neil Aspinall.
Other new roles feature Daniel Hoffmann-Gill as roadie Mal Evans, Arthur Darvill from Doctor Who as press officer Derek Taylor, and Adam Pally from The Mindy Project as music manager Allen Klein. Harry Lloyd, of Game Of Thrones fame, will depict producer George Martin, while James Norton from Happy Valley takes on manager Brian Epstein.

The core band members were cast earlier: Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, replacing initial announcement Charlie Rowe. Supporting roles include Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey.
Produced by Sony Pictures, Neal Street Productions, and Apple Corps, the films mark the first to secure complete rights to the Beatles' music. Director Sam Mendes opted for four films after considering a miniseries, citing the story's vast scope. Ringo Starr contributed notes to his film's script during sessions with Mendes.
Further casting for characters like Cynthia Lennon and Ravi Shankar is expected soon. The project is currently in production.
