Diego 'El Cigala' avoids prison after domestic violence conviction

The Juzgado de lo Penal número 3 de Jerez de la Frontera has suspended the prison sentence for Diego 'El Cigala', who was sentenced to two years and one month in prison for mistreating his ex-wife.

The decision conditions the suspension on the artist not committing crimes for two years and complying with the 200-meter restraining order from the victim. The conviction covers three counts of mistreatment for assaults in hotels in Jerez and Palafrugell, plus an aggravated incident at the family home in the presence of the children.

The court also imposed 25 days of home confinement and the requirement to attend training programs on equality and prevention of gender violence. The original sentence was issued in December 2024 and upheld by the Audiencia Provincial de Cádiz.

The judge acquitted the accused of an aggravated charge related to events at Punta Cana airport in 2017. Judicial sources indicate the suspension meets legal requirements and there is no risk of reoffending.
