Drunk driver crashes into loitz pond

A 42-year-old driver crashed his car into a pond in Loitz city park. Police were alerted after the apparently drunk man tried to free the vehicle himself. A breath test showed 2.19 promille blood alcohol.

In the early evening, police received an emergency call about a man in Loitz (Vorpommern-Greifswald district) trying to retrieve his sunken car from a pond in the city park. Officers from Demmin and Greifswald found the 42-year-old at the scene. A breathalyzer test showed 2.19 promille according to police reports.

The driver's license was immediately confiscated, and he had to provide a blood sample at Demmin hospital. Criminal proceedings were initiated against him for suspected drunk driving. The car was towed away. Police stated no property damage occurred.

The incident highlights the risks of driving under the influence in the Vorpommern-Greifswald region. Authorities emphasized that such accidents are preventable and reiterated calls for sobriety behind the wheel.
