Egypt and Turkey sign military cooperation agreement

Egypt and Turkey have signed a military cooperation agreement during a meeting of their armed forces chiefs in Cairo, coinciding with the launch of joint aerial drills.

Egyptian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa and Turkish Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu co-chaired the concluding session of the fifth Egyptian-Turkish Military Cooperation Committee meeting. The commanders signed the session’s minutes, which outlined activities to support military cooperation and the exchange of expertise.

Khalifa emphasised the depth of the partnership between the two armed forces. Bayraktaroğlu expressed appreciation for the ties connecting the nations and affirmed his country’s keenness to enhance military relations. Bayraktaroğlu is currently on a multi-day official visit to Egypt.

At the same time, the joint Anatolian Eagle – 2026 aerial exercise began at a Turkish airbase and is scheduled to run for several days. It involves multi-role fighter aircraft from Egypt, Turkey and Azerbaijan, along with a NATO early warning aircraft.
