The event drew senior representatives from the National Council for Women and the Shabab El-Qiyada Foundation, along with past participants and young climate innovators. Minister Manal Awad stressed the need for youth innovation to tackle environmental challenges.

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, Minister Manal Awad, serving as Minister of Local Development and acting Environment Minister, launched the third edition of the Climate Leaders programme. The initiative focuses on backing youth-led projects addressing environmental and climate challenges, while emphasizing women's involvement in these efforts.

The launch drew senior representatives from the National Council for Women and the Shabab El-Qiyada Foundation, as well as participants from prior cycles and a group of young climate innovators. Awad noted that the new edition arrives amid fresh global momentum following the COP30 summit in Brazil. She commended the showcased projects and encouraged young attendees to develop practical, scalable solutions that turn environmental hurdles into growth opportunities.

The minister underscored the Environment Ministry's ongoing support for initiatives empowering youth and women, highlighting the value of joining governorate-level smart green projects competitions. These contests provide funding chances via local and international partners. Awad stated, 'Egypt needs the energy and innovative ideas of its youth,' urging participants to propose concepts aiding environmental issues.

Amal Ammar, Chair of the National Council for Women, highlighted strong collaboration with the youth foundation to foster environmental awareness among Egyptian youth, viewing women's empowerment as a key to sustainable development. The event featured a panel discussion titled 'Climate Leaders: From Idea to Impact,' where experts and young project leaders shared insights. The National Council for Women also presented an appreciation shield to Awad for her work advancing environmental and climate efforts.

The programme operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Social Solidarity, in partnership with the National Council for Women, to bolster youth and student activities on environmental matters.
