Egypt starts commercial trial operations at Safaga 2 Terminal

Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir witnessed the launch of commercial trial operations at the new Safaga 2 Multipurpose Terminal.

The launch aligns with directives from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and forms part of the development of Greater Safaga Port on the Red Sea. Operations began with the arrival of two vessels: the UGR Al Samha carrying 5,000 vehicles from Singapore and the Sven Prosper carrying 2,642 TEUs from King Abdullah Port. The event was attended by Red Sea Governor Walid Abdel Azim, Abu Dhabi Ports Group Managing Director and CEO Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, and other officials. The terminal spans 776,000 square metres and features a 1,100-metre quay with a depth of 17 metres. It has an annual capacity of 450,000 TEUs, expandable to 2 million TEUs, plus seven million tonnes of dry and general cargo, one million tonnes of liquid cargo, and 50,000 vehicles. The minister noted that Egyptian engineers and workers built the facility, which is the first of its kind in Upper Egypt.
