EU agrees on air passenger rights

EU member states have agreed on a new deal for air passenger rights. Airlines will be banned from charging extra fees for seating children together with parents.

The agreement keeps the right to compensation after a three-hour delay. Compensation levels remain between 250 and 600 euros depending on flight distance.

Social Democrat MEP Johan Danielsson commented on the deal. He said passenger rights have been successfully defended.

Airlines will also not be allowed to charge for correcting a misspelled name in a booking. Negotiations have lasted more than a decade.

The legal text must be approved by a conciliation committee and formally adopted by the European Parliament before it takes effect.
