SNCF Réseau announced Monday evening that fires along the south-east high-speed line have been extinguished and traffic has resumed at normal speed. Ten fires broke out near railway tracks across France on Monday due to the heatwave.
The three fires on the south-east axis, including one near Sens in the Yonne and another in the Fontainebleau forest, are now extinguished. «Les pompiers ont quitté les lieux», SNCF Réseau stated in a release to AFP.
The line connecting Paris to Lyon and the south-east had already been disrupted Sunday by a fire in Seine-et-Marne. On Monday, delays reached up to three hours at Gare de Lyon for trains arriving from Lyon, Marseille or Grenoble.
Travelers voiced frustration over the lack of information. «Personne n'est venu nous renseigner directement», said Karen Brugg, waiting at Gare de Lyon. Others incurred extra hotel costs after train cancellations.
