A fire in Nave 1 of Parque Tabasco Dora María killed five people in the early hours of Thursday. Governor Javier May confirmed the victims were exhibitors from other states and that the event will close as scheduled on May 10.
Governor Javier May Rodríguez reported during a press conference that the five deceased were exhibitors from other states. He expressed condolences and announced that the government will provide support to affected families, noting a 500 million peso insurance policy in place since October 2025 to cover damages.
May stated that the Fiscalía General del Estado launched a rigorous investigation and that security videos are being reviewed to determine the causes. Although a short circuit was initially mentioned, the governor suggested the fire may have started from activities such as cooking food inside the hall.
Secretary of Tourism and Economic Development Katia Ornelas Gil reported that by May 6 the fair had received over 1.2 million visitors and generated more than 1,200 million pesos in economic impact. The fire destroyed around 200 artisan stalls and caused the roof to collapse, although the event was not canceled.
