Flyers rally to beat Islanders 4-3 in shootout on Warren's debut

The Philadelphia Flyers overcame two deficits to defeat the New York Islanders 4-3 in a shootout on October 25, 2025, at Wells Fargo Center. Islanders rookie defenseman Marshall Warren made his NHL debut with two assists, drawing cheers from family and friends in attendance. Trevor Zegras scored twice in the third period and added a shootout goal to secure the win for Philadelphia.

The Islanders struck first in the opening period when Simon Holmstrom scored a shorthanded goal at 9:51, assisted by Jean-Gabriel Pageau, giving New York a 1-0 lead. In the second period, Anthony Duclair extended the advantage to 2-0 at 6:15 with a goal assisted by Marshall Warren and Anders Lee. Philadelphia responded later in the frame as Christian Dvorak scored at 10:29, assisted by Trevor Zegras and Matvei Michkov, making it 2-1.

The third period saw a wild comeback. Zegras tied the game at 2-2 just 1:54 in, assisted by Dvorak and Jamie Drysdale. Warren picked up his second assist at 4:21 on Maxim Tsyplakov's goal, putting the Islanders ahead 3-2. But Zegras equalized again at 7:32 on a power-play goal assisted by Bobby Brink and Cam York, forcing overtime.

No goals came in overtime, leading to a shootout. Bobby Brink was stopped by Ilya Sorokin, but Bo Horvat was denied by Samuel Ersson. Zegras scored on Sorokin, matched by Holmstrom's goal on Ersson. Matvei Michkov then beat Sorokin for the game-deciding goal, while Duclair was stopped, giving the Flyers the victory.

Warren, a Laurel Hollow native and lifelong Islanders fan, played 11:20 paired with Tony DeAngelo. His family and nearly 20 friends traveled from Long Island to cheer him on, chanting 'Let's Go Warren' before his second assist. 'It's just incredible,' said his mother, Lisa Warren. 'Seeing him live out his dream.' The Islanders earned a point, extending their streak to five games (4-0-1), while shots were even at 26-26.
