Games Done Quick ended a post-event stream early after community backlash over its sponsor. The stream was meant to mark Metal Slug's 30th anniversary. Organisers later issued an apology and said they would reject the sponsorship funds.
Summer Games Done Quick 2026 concluded recently. A planned follow-up stream sponsored by SNK was cancelled shortly after it began due to concerns about the company's ownership ties.
SNK is 96 percent owned by the Electronic Gaming Development Company, a subsidiary linked to Saudi Arabia's Misk Foundation. Viewers highlighted these connections on social media, noting the sponsor's relation to the Saudi government.
In a statement, GDQ said it would not accept the funds from the sponsorship or work with the sponsor again. The group also apologised for failing to review the partnership adequately and expressed regret to the stream runners and host.
The event raised over two million dollars for Doctors Without Borders. The organisation has previously provided aid in regions affected by conflicts involving Saudi-led forces.
