Geena Davis to star in HBO drama Dorothea

Geena Davis is attached to star in and executive produce Dorothea, a potential HBO series about serial killer Dorothea Puente.

The project comes from showrunner Joshua Michael Stern and is based on a story co-written by Michael Rosenbaum and Jane Whitney. It draws from the real events surrounding Puente, who operated a boarding house in Sacramento during the 1980s while murdering tenants and cashing their benefits.

Davis will play the lead role of the Sacramento woman whose actions masked her crimes for years. The series would mark her first starring television part since the 2006 series Commander in Chief.

According to reports, the drama explores how Puente evaded detection due to her appearance before her eventual arrest and conviction for three murders.
