Google has made its flight simulator available to all users on the web version of Google Earth. The feature, previously limited to the desktop app since 2007, allows casual exploration of the planet from a browser.
The update was announced by the Google Earth team on June 12, 2026, via social media. Users can access the mode by opening Google Earth, clicking Explore Earth, selecting a location, and choosing Flight Simulator from the Tools menu.
The feature is described as experimental. Google notes that it is designed for casual exploration rather than high-fidelity aerodynamic training.
Controls include mouse or arrow keys for pitch and roll, with Page Up and Page Down adjusting thrust. The simulator draws on the full Google Earth database, enabling flights to landmarks worldwide.
It is not intended to replace more detailed programs such as Microsoft Flight Simulator.
