Horizons' youth wing is ramping up efforts to offset Édouard Philippe's lag among young voters. Against Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who leads with 26-34% voting intentions among 18-24 year olds, and the Rassemblement national (RN) up to 27%, Philippe scores only 7-13% in recent polls.
President Marine Cazard, a 29-year-old consultant, announced a communication operation at the end of April. Dubbed 'Kit to debate everywhere in France', it will deploy militants on the ground. 'The goal is to rally even more young people around our candidate for the campaign,' she said. 'We want to be everywhere: campuses, bars, beaches, festivals.'
With 6500 members and a presence in about 75 universities, this under-35 'philippistes' movement comes ahead of Philippe's promised 'massive programme' presentation. They aim to catch up with the RN and La France insoumise (LFI) in this key age group.
