Iberia projects up to 760,000 passengers on Colombia-Spain route

Marita Sánchez, Iberia's country manager in Colombia, highlighted the potential for up to 760,000 passengers on the Colombia-Spain route in 2026. The airline operates three daily flights from Bogotá to Madrid and aims to strengthen its foothold in the local market. Sánchez shared these goals at the Vitrina Anato 2026.

At the Vitrina Anato 2026, Marita Sánchez, Iberia's country manager for Colombia, outlined the airline's positive performance in the country. Iberia, one of Spain's flagship carriers, scheduled over 5.5 million seats between Europe and Latin America for 2025. In Colombia, the company runs three daily flights, equating to nearly 1,000 passengers per leg and a potential of 760,000 annual passengers to Spain.

Colombia is a key market for Iberia, on par with Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. "Colombia is a very relevant market for us," Sánchez stated. The airline views this destination as essential, with Argentina the only one exceeding it with four daily flights.

For 2026, Iberia sets three main goals: solidify the three daily frequencies, ramp up focus on the corporate segment through its sales team, and enhance the new alliance between frequent flyer programs Latam Pass and Iberia Plus. This partnership aims to boost corporate traffic with cross-benefits. Marina Colunga, Iberia's commercial director for Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasized: “Colombia is a fundamental pillar for Iberia in Latin America. We have three flights per day, translating to more than 2,100 daily seats available between Bogotá and Madrid.”

While Iberia considers direct routes from Cali, Medellín, and Cartagena, it currently prioritizes Bogotá through partnerships with Avianca and Latam. The groups segment, including students and quinceañera trips, is notable, but corporate travel is the focus, with 17% growth in passengers and 23% in revenues compared to 2024. Travel peaks occur in July, August, December, and January, with no pronounced low seasons.
