On Tuesday morning, the Screen Actors Guild announced its nominations, recognizing Emma Stone for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ darkly comic sci-fi drama “Bugonia.” In contrast, Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in the psychological drama “Die My Love,” adapted from Ariana Harwicz’s novel, did not receive a nomination.
Lawrence described the immediate aftermath during an interview with podcast host Josh Horowitz at the 92NY on Wednesday night. “We’re in a group chat and she got nominated for a SAG today and I did not,” she said. “I wrote ‘WHAT!’ and all her friends were like ‘Congratulations Emma’ and I just do a sad face.”
The exchange underscored the playful dynamic between the two actresses, who have often been compared in awards conversations over the past decade. “Every time she tries to talk today, I’m like ‘Why are you not saying sorry,’” Lawrence joked. “She’s been beating me for decades but it’s an honor.”
