Kenya transporters urge government to resolve fuel shortages before price review

The Kenya Transporters Association has urged the Ministry of Energy to urgently tackle ongoing fuel shortages ahead of the next price review scheduled for May 14, 2026.

In a statement issued on May 8, 2026, the association demanded greater transparency on national fuel stocks and clear explanations for the shortages. It also sought details on steps to stabilise supply and timelines for restoring normal operations.

The group said many fuel stations are dry or rationing supplies, forcing transporters to queue for hours instead of moving cargo. This has left trucks stranded and disrupted schedules across the country.

The Kenya Transporters Association noted that the shortages contradict earlier government assurances of sufficient reserves. It warned that the disruptions are harming supply chains, regional trade and Kenya's reputation as a logistics hub.

Current retail prices stand at Ksh197.60 per litre for Super Petrol, Ksh196.63 for Diesel and Ksh152.78 for Kerosene. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority is due to announce new prices covering May 15 to June 14, 2026.
