Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof criticized Thursday the lower house approval of cuts to gas subsidies in cold zones. He warned of effects on tariffs and living conditions for millions of Argentines. He called on the Senate to reject the bill pushed by President Javier Milei.
At an event in Florencio Varela, Kicillof called the initiative a major error. He said it puts at risk the tariffs and living conditions of millions of Argentines across the country.
The governor linked the measure to the national government's austerity drive. He stated that some parts of the bill are illegal and could lead to judicial challenges.
Kicillof compared Argentina's energy policy with that of other countries. He noted that while other governments took containment measures amid rising prices, here the cost was passed directly to gas, electricity and fuel tariffs.
