Lionsgate has released a new promotional video for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, featuring a recap of the franchise's previous films and comparisons between original actors and their prequel counterparts. The teaser spotlights familiar characters like Effie Trinket and Haymitch Abernathy in their younger versions ahead of the film's November 20 premiere. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the prequel follows young Haymitch during the 50th Hunger Games reaping.
The promo opens with Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket asking, “Remember?” before cutting to Elle Fanning portraying the character in the prequel. It juxtaposes actors from the earlier films with their counterparts in this story set 24 years prior: Amanda Plummer and Maya Hawke as Wiress; Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee; Stanley Tucci and Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman; Jeffrey Wright and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier; Lynn Cohen and Lili Taylor as Mags Flanagan; Donald Sutherland and Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow; and Woody Harrelson and Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, whom the film centers on as a young tribute from District 12 during the Second Quarter Quell reaping morning in Panem's 50th Hunger Games. The Billy Ray-scripted film, based on Suzanne Collins' novel, also stars Glenn Close, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace and Ben Wang. Francis Lawrence returns to direct, continuing his work on the franchise. Lionsgate's video serves longtime fans by evoking nostalgia while teasing the backstory of Haymitch Abernathy.
