Man in his 20s detained after shooting in Gävle
A man in his 20s has been detained on suspicion of aiding attempted murder and serious weapons offenses following the Gävle shooting that injured six people. The suspected shooter is a boy who was 13 at the time and is now under social services. Another person is suspected of involvement.
During the night into Saturday, October 4, 2025, someone opened fire on Södra Kungsgatan in central Gävle, a bar street on Söder. Six people, both children and young adults, were shot and injured in the incident just before 2 a.m. All victims had left the hospital by Friday, October 10.
The suspected shooter was 13 years old at the time and is now 14. He is not criminally responsible and has been handed over to social services while an investigation under the law for young offenders (LUL) is ongoing. A criminal investigation has been launched against suspected adults.
A man in his mid-20s from Gävle was detained on October 10 on probable cause for aiding six counts of attempted murder and serious weapons offenses. He was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday after being held in absentia since Monday and is believed to have supplied the boy with the weapon. The man was placed under LVU care as a teenager due to destructive behavior, associations with older individuals, involvement in a large brawl, and threats against school staff and family. In 2021, he was sentenced to protective supervision for money laundering in a larger scheme, and he has also been convicted of robbery and appeared in investigations linked to gang environments.
Another man over 18 is reasonably suspected of aiding attempted murder. He was arrested on Wednesday, October 8, and remains in custody; the prosecutor will decide on detention by the following weekend.
Police are investigating multiple motives, but the crime is likely part of the ongoing wave of violence between criminal networks. Senior prosecutor Jenny Örn states in a press release: "Given that it involves a young perpetrator wielding firearm violence, the act follows the modus operandi we have previously seen in violence between criminal networks."
