Martin Freeman cast in British drama Oddly Flowers

Martin Freeman has been cast in the upcoming British drama Oddly Flowers, based on Jessica Grant's novel Come, Thou Tortoise. The film stars Emily Carey in the lead role as a young woman uncovering family secrets after her father's death. Filming is set to begin soon in Newfoundland.

The British drama Oddly Flowers centers on Audrey, a young woman whose sheltered life unravels following the death of her father during the Christmas holidays. Left alone, she begins to question her mysterious upbringing and the disappearance of her pet mouse. With the assistance of inventor Judd, Audrey embarks on a journey from Newfoundland to England to find the family she was never permitted to know.

Adapted from Jessica Grant's novel Come, Thou Tortoise, the film features Emily Carey, known for her role in House of the Dragon, as Audrey. Martin Freeman will portray her father, Walter, an eccentric scientist. Sam Spruell is cast as her uncle Thoby, with additional roles filled by Alex Eling as Judd, Alistair Petrie, Lindsay Duncan, and Melanie Nicholls-King.

Jordan Canning, who wrote, directed, and produced the project, expressed enthusiasm about the production. "I've been carrying this story with me for more than 15 years – ever since I first read Jessica Grant's remarkable novel and began imagining its world on screen," Canning said. She added, "To finally bring it to life with a cast of this calibre is beyond anything I allowed myself to hope for. This has been a long journey, but having such an extraordinary group of actors at the heart of the film makes the wait entirely worthwhile."

Production is scheduled to start next week in Newfoundland, Canada, before shifting to Cornwall and London in late March. The film will release in Canada in 2027, with a European debut date still to be announced.
