Mastodon releases song honoring late guitarist Brent Hinds

Mastodon has issued its first new music since the 2025 death of founding guitarist Brent Hinds. The track, titled “Your Ghost Again,” features shared vocals from bassist Troy Sanders and drummer Brann Dailor.

The band worked with producers Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou on the single. New guitarist Nick Johnston joined the lineup for the recording. The group is also preparing a full-length album that will follow its 2021 release Hushed and Grim. Dailor described the song’s origin in a press statement. “For me, ‘Your Ghost Again’ is about when you lose somebody that’s close to you that you existed with for most of your life,” he said. He added that the lyrics reflect moments of seeing familiar figures who are no longer present, including both Hinds and his own mother. Mastodon has extended its current tour with additional North American dates in September and October. The European leg continues through late June.
