Mexican company acquires Honduran presidential plane for 5.1 million dollars

Thebe Ingeniería purchased the Embraer Legacy 600 jet in an auction held in Tegucigalpa. The Mexican company was the sole bidder and paid 5.1 million dollars.

Honduras’s presidential plane 001 was sold this Friday in an auction at the Hernán Acosta Mejía Air Base in Tegucigalpa. Thebe Ingeniería, which offers air taxi services, was the only company that participated and acquired the aircraft for 5.1 million dollars.

The Embraer Legacy 600, with capacity for 20 passengers, had been used for eight years by former president Juan Orlando Hernández. Originally purchased for 14 million dollars, the jet manufactured in Brazil was donated at the time by Taiwan.

During the Xiomara Castro administration from 2022 to 2026, the aircraft served to repatriate deceased Honduran migrants. Defense Secretary Enrique Rodríguez explained that documentation was missing and that the asset was not registered as state property until the procedures were completed.
