Microsoft reveals SpongeBob-themed Xbox controllers

Microsoft has announced limited-edition Xbox controllers featuring the face of SpongeBob SquarePants to celebrate the character's upcoming game and movie. The controllers include a standard Xbox model and an Elite Series 2 version, both customizable via the Xbox Design Lab. They tie into the release of SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide on November 18, 2025.

Controller Designs

The new controllers showcase a graphic of SpongeBob's unblinking face, with yellow thumbsticks and an orange D-pad. The Xbox home button and X face buttons replace SpongeBob's pupils, giving the design a quirky twist. The Elite Series 2 version adds 'pants' on the handles for added detail. As described in the GameSpot article, these designs aim to capture SpongeBob's energetic personality while integrating seamlessly with Xbox hardware.

Customization Options

Available through the Xbox Design Lab, users can personalize the controllers with various button styles, metallic triggers and D-pads, rubberized side and back grips, and engravings. However, options like adding a seaweed mustache are not available, keeping customizations focused on functionality and theme.

Related Releases

These controllers complement SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, a 3D platformer where SpongeBob and Patrick repair damage caused by King Neptune and the Flying Dutchman. Preorders are open for the $40 standard edition and the $90 Ghostly Tides Edition (physical) or $55 (digital), both launching November 18, 2025. Additionally, a $600 full-size SpongeBob claw machine from Arcade1Up is available for preorder, featuring a 'Scam Mode' reminiscent of arcade experiences.
